Puppy and Kitten Care

Bringing a new puppy or kitty home and you're sure to bring a new level of smiles and happiness into your entire family. Your new pet will be exploring their new environment and will need some extra guidance and protection. That's where the veterinarians and staff at Companion Animal Clinic and Pet Resort can help.

Preventive care is one of our top priorities. Your new pet’s first wellness visit should be at about 6–8 weeks of age. Our puppy and kitten consults generally include a full physical wellness exam, age and lifestyle appropriate vaccinations, deworming, fecal exam, dermatology check, behavior and feeding advice. We teach you basic handling of your pet’s mouth, ears and paws so your pet will be trained to be comfortable with routine physical exams and grooming in the future. We provide a complimentary nail trim and educate you on parasite testing and prevention such as heartworm, intestinal worms, fleas and ticks. Included in this service is a series of examinations and vaccinations, such as:

New Puppy or Kitty?

We can hardly wait to meet your new furry kid! Please read over the information on this page and give us a call if you have more questions. We'd be happy to guide you through the process of pet parenting!

Worm and Parasite Treatment

We will test and treat your new pet for worms and parasites. Some of the most common intestinal parasites found in puppies and kittens are roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, coccidia and giardia (a protozoan parasite). Puppies and kittens typically become infected with worms and parasites from their mother or contact with infected fecal matter. These parasites cause gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, excessive gas and abdominal bloat. Hookworm parasites can even cause your puppy to become anemic (low red blood cells). Since some of these parasites can be transferred to members of your family or to other pets, testing and deworming is very important.

Spay and Neuter Surgery

We recommend that pets be spayed or neutered between 6–8 months of age. At Companion Animal Clinic and Pet Resort,  your pet will receive first class veterinary care not only during the surgery but pre and postoperative as well. We have extremely high standards and strict safety protocols in place to be certain your pet is always safe, comfortable and secure.

What Our Pet Parents are Saying!

“We have been in a lot recently with a sick kitty. They have been kind and compassionate every time and even fit us in for an unexpected appointment. When the appointment took longer than expected, their kindness only increased. They made sure we were comfortable and never felt rushed, in spite of the busy day. We greatly appreciate all of the employees, and the doctors are top notch. Thank you all for helping us through a tough time!”
