Veterinarian & Owner
Dr. Ben Nemmers
Ben was born in Okinawa, Japan and raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Since he was young, he always thought about being a veterinarian. He received a B.S. in Zoology at North Dakota State University, where he competed on the men's basketball team on an athletic scholarship. Dr. Nemmers then attended Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in May of 2009. He has an interest in Small Animal Surgery and Dermatology.

Dr. Colleen Nemmers
Colleen was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where she completed her undergraduate degree in Biology and competed in Track & Field at the University of La Salle in Philadelphia. She attended Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in May of 2009. Her interests include managing medical cases such as diabetes, thyroid disease and other endocrine conditions.

Dr. Amanda Deutsch
Amanda is originally from Omaha, Nebraska. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Iowa State University in 2014 and graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. She lives in Cedar Falls with her husband, John, and their two sons, James and Cameron. Amanda values all aspects of veterinary medicine and is proud to provide compassionate, quality care to pets in the Cedar Valley community. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active, spending time with her family, and caring for her cat, Herbert Lewis.

Veterinarian
Dr. McKenna Kvidera
Dr. McKenna grew up just outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin where her love for animals began at a young age while showing horses, petting all the dogs and barn cats. She earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Illinois. Her professional interests include preventive care, dermatology, and allergy management. Dr. McKenna especially enjoys getting to know each pet and their family and working together with owners to help their animals live happy, comfortable lives. Building lasting relationships and supporting the human–animal bond is one of her favorite parts of veterinary medicine. Dr. McKenna lives in rural Traer with her husband, Joe, and their two children. Outside the clinic, and when not chasing her kids around the farm, you’ll usually find her reading, tending to her cut-flower garden, or baking sourdough. She is also an active member in the Down syndrome community and enjoys being involved in her church and local community.


Veterinarian
Dr. Katey Ternus
Dr. Katey grew up in La Porte City, Iowa. She followed her passion for animal to Iowa State University for her bachelors in animal science and went on to complete her Veterinary Medicine degree there as well (once a Cyclone, always a Cyclone!) She graduated with her Dr. of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. She most enjoys following your furry friends through their life during their routine wellness and preventative appointments. Those routine visits leads to catching problems early to give treatment the best opportunity to be successful! Outside of work, Katey enjoys camping with her husband and children!

Staff Supervisor / Veterinary Technician
Kari
Kari is a Waterloo native where she lives currently with her husband & 2 kids. She has 2 dogs, a cat, and a bearded dragon. Kari is one of our Vet Techs and has also earned the position of Staff Supervisor. Kari’s favorite part of being a Vet Tech is drawing blood & helping sick animals feel better.

Cyrus- RIP
Cyrus is our resident fashionista here at Companion Animal Clinic. While working hard to
oversee the lobby, you can find Cyrus sporting new and exciting outfits each time you come to visit.

Head of Security
Herbert
Herbert is one of our resident clinic cats. He enjoys roaming the clinic and keeping everyone in line. Though he enjoys getting into trouble, he still finds plenty of time to snuggle up with our
clinic staff.
